things that make my heart sing

When I sit and think about Mother's Day, a number of things come to mind. First I made these types of posts - things that make my heart sing - in part because my Momo always used the phrase "Sing Joy". When she wrote me as a child she would sign it "Sing Joy, Momo". When she signed cards or what not, she would usually include that phrase. It brings joy to my life to think about her and the love she had for people. As annoying as it may have been, she was an amazing encourager.... if that's even a word. Without a doubt I know that she use to compliment how I looked even if I ran over from the house down the street without a shower or makeup. She saw no ugly and only beauty.... except in other people. :) Sometimes we would be in the mall or the car and out of nowhere she would comment on some big lady's booty. And she wasn't quiet about it! Her whisper was never quite a whisper. Perhaps it's because of all the years talking loudly to Pawpaw. Anyway, back to my original thought. I think of Momo when I think of Mother's Day. This year will be the first Mother's Day without her. It is bittersweet. But I will Sing Joy for her. She's looking down on us with happiness. And oh the view she must have from above!

Mother's Day also reminds me of the day Zac proposed to me (May 13th, 2006), the day before Mother's Day. I never saw the proposal coming. I thought for sure he'd wait until I at least graduated high school ;)... which was the following weekend. Roll your eyes if you must, but sometimes people do know they are meant to be together at the young age of 18. Not everyone, but I do believe some people just know.

I'm honestly not a big holiday fan... even holidays like Mother's Day. But this will be my first Mother's Day as a mom. It probably won't be that amazing for me, but I do have to say I look forward to Grady getting older and getting little handmade things from him.

So, to get back to "things that make my heart sing", I have to say I'm really looking forward to spending some time with friends this weekend. A group of us are grilling out Saturday and celebrating our friend Nate on graduating college. I'm also running in a 5k/4 miles this Saturday. I'm a little nervous since I've only ran 4 miles twice lately, once was yesterday. Today I plan to walk/run some and then play floorball tonight. So wish me luck for Saturday!

Last night while Zac was eating an apple, Grady just stared at him watching his every move. So, Zac decided to let him try it. We thought he would just lick it. Nope, little man attempted to bite it just like dad. It was the cutest thing!! I'm afraid we won't be able to keep him out of our plates before long.

I am loving the personality Grady has started to show. He's really becoming such a fun little guy.

And Happy Mother's Day to all the mommas out there!!

Much love,
Em
